The Sweeney Family Band is a country family band show that started in 2004. The band quickly began playing at fairs, festivals, and corporate meetings and special events across the country. In no time at all, the band created fan base from Las Vegas to Missouri to Miami. They have performed along side some great acts like the Charlie Daniels Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, Confederate Railroad, Little Texas, and the Marshall Tucker Band. They have even been seen on "American Idol" performing a parody of a song that was originally performed by a wannabe contestant for the show.
The Sweeney Family Band is a throwback to a simpler time. "Funny is funny" says Slim Sweeney aka George Thompson, founder of the Sweeney Family Band. "So many people are trying to be the next big thing, when all along, the next big thing happened 60 years ago."
Their comedy and performance style is in the fashion of the "Grand Old Oprey meets Hee Haw." "Its great because the older folks love the nostalgia and the younger kids think we are genius says Thompson." "And there is something about down home humor that appeals to everyone."
In their show you'll hear a lots of comedy along with tons of country music. They'll also mix in some great blue grass and folk tunes with a little old time Gospel thrown in.
